Your Child is Invited to Join Scouts!

August 18, 2026

This fall, the Cornhusker Council, Scouting America begins its annual fall recruitment campaign, inviting families across southeast Nebraska to discover how Scouting helps youth build  character, confidence, and lifelong skills.

Look for school flyers from Scouting America units in your neighborhood about their back-to-school meeting night or contact us a info@cornhuskercouncil.org.  You can join the adventure anytime! For more information, visit us at www.cornhuskercouncil.org or (402) 488-6020.

You wonder how they will find their way. To get them ready for the times you won’t be there to help.  How to help them  to be strong enough, brave enough, mentally sharp, moral. They need confidence without arrogance. Skills without screens, for the world beyond school and sports. Ready for emergencies, for challenges, for whatever the world throws their way.  Prepared for what they have in their heads and hearts. What they can do with their own two hands. What they can do working with others. They need to be social without the media. A way to experience the real world in real safety.  A place to be challenged without being overwhelmed. A safe place to explore the world and imagine what’s possible for them in it. Where all kids are welcome and everyone has a path forward to new skills, advancement, leadership, where their individual effort can create something invaluable. Something they will carry with them the rest of their lives.

Today's children face increasing challenges, from excessive screen time and social media pressures to bullying and negative peer influences. Scouting provides a positive alternative where young people develop resilience, leadership, responsibility, and strong values through outdoor adventures, service projects, and hands-on learning.

"Parents want opportunities that help their children grow into confident, caring, and capable adults," said Jeffrey Johnson, Scout Executive/CEO of the Cornhusker Council. "Scouting gives youth the chance to make real friendships, learn practical life skills, and experience adventures that prepare them for success in school, work, and life."

Recruitment events will be held throughout August and September at schools and community locations across the council's service area. Families can meet local volunteers, learn about Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA, and find a unit that fits their family's schedule.

The Cornhusker Council serves thousands of youth across southeast Nebraska through programs that develop character, citizenship, leadership, and personal fitness while preparing the next  generation of community leaders.
